Porcelain Seasoning Pot 350ml
Two glazes meet on this pot. A dark iron brown covers the base and the lid, an amber band runs around the belly, and along the seam the colours break into a fine speckle that no two pots share. That happens in the kiln, not on a design brief.
This lidded pot from Tokyo Design Studio is porcelain, fired hot enough to vitrify completely, so it takes on nothing: no smell of chili oil, no ghost of last month's miso, no staining from turmeric or shichimi.
The lid has no slit, which seals it properly against humidity. Salt stays loose and ground spices keep their aroma instead of going flat.
Use it for coarse salt within reach of the stove, sugar next to the tea things, or shichimi togarashi, sansho and gomashio at the table. It also holds the small toppings you set out alongside noodles or hot pot: grated ginger, sliced spring onion, radish.
